“We invited Paola Navone to Murano for a simple reason: to develop a lighting installation that would once again demonstrate our ability to make glass, and go further. Genuine glass moves and astonishes you. Genuine glass allows no compromise. Genuine glass represents glass as we have always understood it. Working with Paola Navone was easy because we understood each other immediately.
Our initial instruction was clear and simple: start with objects from our collection and take them wherever her creative vision led, without predetermined limits. Paola could go wherever she wished, releasing her creative abilities with complete independence and freedom. Creative independence allowed Paola to pursue the goal that inspired us.
That is what happened. Our new luminous creations, table lamps and chandeliers were enlarged, deformed and repeated endlessly. Every object was not simply blue, but expressed many shades and nuances of blue. Paola Navone’s natural ability to combine different worlds and distant cultures created a dreamlike atmosphere. Blue glass, thousands of LEDs, wooden and mirrored backgrounds, and curious small objects formed a magical world in the dark. Visitors moved through the installation like a magical labyrinth. The enchanted world was also our world. Glass carries magic in its DNA. Barovier & Toso has created that magic for 700 years.”

“Every design begins with a meeting. The idea for Blue Adventure began with a meeting with Jacopo Barovier. The combination of imagination and a partner’s desire made the installation possible. My first visit to the glassworks left me with two special memories. The first memory was the impressive Barovier family tree, which recorded family members who had worked with glass in Murano since 1295. The second memory was a lamp created by Ercole Barovier in 1927 for his son Angelo, who did not want to sleep in the dark.
The Blue project developed at the intersection of those two memories. The Barovier family tree consisted of 130 different small amulets, each dedicated to a family member. Each small talisman was made from a fragment of coloured glass and countless fragments of life. Blue became a sequence of rooms where lamps, lanterns and shards of glass multiplied, overlapped and accumulated. Precious objects were mixed with factory materials, while glass sat easily alongside both. Weathered wood and rusted iron structures surrounded the glass wonders. Each object also became part of another object’s staging.
Blue appeared everywhere: Delft blue, cobalt, aquamarine, indigo, Prussian blue, ultramarine and International Klein Blue. The glassworks brought its craft to every part of the installation. Luminous blue glass grass stems grew in the magical garden. A library made from rusted iron was filled with lamps. An underwater world came alive with elements that moved like jellyfish.
The installation featured magnificent lamps that were huge or tiny, inverted, disproportionate and out of place. The Blue Good lamp was released as a limited edition. The lamp welcomed visitors at the beginning of the labyrinth and said goodbye at the exit with a restrained, poetic and familiar presence.”
