Rotaliana Febo Pendant Lights

Rotaliana

The recurring interplay of mathematical sequences and geometric compositions has inspired artists and experimenters across the world since classical antiquity, continuing through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the present day.
Arabic builders created a system of predominantly triangular niches and stalactite forms.
The system is called Mukarnas, or Muqarnas, and was first made individually at large scale before being produced in series.
Muqarnas is also used at smaller scales and remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration. M.C. Escher’s profound study of combinations of triangles and hexagons led to the final form of the Febo concept. The architecture of Granada, Jerusalem and Isfahan, including the Alhambra and mosques, uses simple, compact exterior volumes. Light passing through windows around the base of domes reveals those volumes with a magical, evocative effect. Febo pendant lights combine natural light with LED light concealed inside a circular frame. Reflections across the faceted, mirrored surface of the lowered dome transform a simple, smooth rounded volume into a varied play of powerful luminous refractions.
