The history of Salda is the history of the Besana family. The Besana family made a passion for craftsmanship its “raison d'etre”, preserved traditional knowledge and continued its work to protect the heritage of old masters while enriching that heritage with modern elegance and inspiration.
Salda was founded at the beginning of the 19th century, when the Besana family, then interior decorators for the Royal House of Austria, began creating handcrafted furniture and furnishings for the residences of French nobility.
Within a few years, Salda managed one of the largest craft enterprises, with workshops producing furniture. Salda soon became one of the most significant furniture manufacturers in Italian history.
Furniture production had to stop at the beginning of the First World War. Salda remained in business during the war years by producing propellers and wings for combat aircraft.
Salda returned to furniture making after peace was restored. Salda continues to create furniture today.
