The Stellage chair combines a clean, precise construction with an organic, sinuous profile. The backrest and armrests are welded to a slim, biomorphic structure, giving the compact armchair a distinctive character.
“Stellage” was the name of a designer group formed by Gabetti & Isola and Raineri. The group won a 1952 competition announced by the Turin Chamber of Commerce for the design and layout of a new stock exchange building and its furniture. The name expresses a clear intention: the term refers to a type of financial contract that can minimise losses from a transaction. The design proved successful, and the compact armchair became an icon presented in major collections, including the permanent collection at MoMA in New York. The project has a distinctive, recognisable style shaped by an intimate and personal search. Turin artisans made the armchair with close attention to detail. The compact armchair reflects the Neoliberty style associated with the capital of Piedmont. The studio represents this style in Italy. The original version features an ebonised beech frame with curved, harmonious forms, metal joints and visible screws. Resinflex upholstery provides an elegant appearance and resistance to atmospheric conditions.
The new, previously unpublished compact armchair project is called “Stellage 52”. Lodovico Gabetti and Fabrizio Pellegrino developed the project through an idea and initiative connected with the reissue of Gabetti & Isola furniture at Gabab studio in Turin. Collaboration began after a meeting with Franco Ceccotti and made it possible to produce and sell the armchair for the first time since its creation for the Turin stock exchange. The new edition preserves the original design and adds structural and decorative features. Fully redesigned metal brackets improve seat stability, while leather upholstery provides a new finish. The frame uses solid American walnut in the colours shown in the catalogue.
Stellage 52 belongs to the Masters Tribute line promoted by Ceccotti Collezioni. The Tuscan company applies its craftsmanship and design experience to the reissue of selected classic designs.
