Danilo De Rossi

Danilo De Rossi: the poetics of light and glass in Italamp design
Danilo De Rossi is an architect, designer and lighting artist whose creative career is closely connected with Venice, a city of water, glass and reflections. Danilo De Rossi has worked within this distinctive cultural setting since the early 1980s, where nature and craftsmanship meet. The proximity of the lagoon shaped his deep interest in Murano glass and decorative lighting, defining the direction of his professional work.
Inspired by transparency and form, Danilo De Rossi expanded his education by earning a master’s degree in lighting design at Politecnico di Milano. The degree marked a decisive stage in his career and established Danilo De Rossi as a leading designer of contemporary glass lighting. Danilo De Rossi developed a visual language for light that is expressive, fluid and rich in meaning. Danilo De Rossi brought his concepts to projects for LEUCOS and De Majo Murano, where he held a key role from the 1990s to the mid-2010s as both a designer and creative director.
Danilo De Rossi has served as art director at Italamp since 2016, bringing a distinctive aesthetic connection to the brand. Danilo De Rossi’s Italamp collections connect Murano glass traditions with contemporary technology. Danilo De Rossi treats light as an emotional design tool, creating objects where material and function become part of an artistic image. Danilo De Rossi’s work reflects close attention to glass texture, transparency, colour and compositional elegance. Under Danilo De Rossi’s direction, Italamp explores the possibilities of handmade production and expressive design as part of interior culture.
Danilo De Rossi received international recognition through lighting designs created for leading Italian brands. Danilo De Rossi’s work received the Good Design Award in Chicago, the Wallpaper Design Award in the United Kingdom, the IDA Award in Los Angeles and an award for the best stand at an exhibition in Las Vegas. The awards demonstrate the international appeal of Danilo De Rossi’s approach to light.
Danilo De Rossi also shares his professional experience in academia by teaching the Product and Lighting course at Raffles Institute of Fashion and Design in Milan. The course keeps Danilo De Rossi in dialogue with young designers and supports the development of lighting as an integral part of space, culture and everyday life.
Danilo De Rossi is one of the designers shaping Italian lighting design today. Danilo De Rossi continues to explore the relationship between light, glass and space through collaboration with Italamp. Danilo De Rossi creates objects that do more than illuminate interiors, giving each object a narrative quality.
