Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa

Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa are an Italian design partnership working across architecture, industrial design and interior design. Mario Marconato was born in Como in 1961, and Terry Zappa was born in Como in 1963. Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa graduated with honours from Politecnico di Milano in 1986. Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa began working together professionally in 1981 and founded the studio «Marconato & Zappa Architetti Associati» in Cantù, Italy, in 1991 .​

Practice and philosophy

Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa have worked closely with artisans and manufacturers since the beginning of their careers, developing innovative products for many furniture companies.Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa have contributed to every stage of development, including conceptual design, engineering and marketing. Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa have also worked as art directors and designed exhibition stands for trade fairs and exhibitions.​

As interior designers, Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa have designed private homes, hotels, exhibition spaces and retail spaces for private and corporate clients in Italy and abroad. As architects, Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa have reconstructed and restored historic and contemporary buildings.​

Mario Marconato and Terry Zappa also create art projects involving video, photography, street art and global cultures, drawing inspiration from travels across Italy and around the world .​
