Toshiyuki Yoshino

Toshiyuki Yoshino is a Japanese designer born in Yokohama in 1959. Toshiyuki Yoshino graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1984 and continued postgraduate study in equipment design at the same university, completing the programme in 1987. Toshiyuki Yoshino then received a German government scholarship to study the academic theory of the “language of form” at the Academy of Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. ​

Toshiyuki Yoshino founded his own studio, “Studio Yoshino”, in Milan in 1993 and launched his own furniture brand in 1999. Toshiyuki Yoshino’s work is defined by strict geometry, minimalism and close attention to detail. Toshiyuki Yoshino draws inspiration from Japanese culture and the work of American artists such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Toshiyuki Yoshino believes that morphology combined with mathematical harmony can free the mind and connect people with nature, allowing emotions to be expressed through lines. ​

Notable Toshiyuki Yoshino projects include the Kagura chair and Kasumi coffee table, created for the Italian brand Bonaldo. The Kagura chair and Kasumi coffee table combine formal precision with refined simplicity, reflecting Toshiyuki Yoshino’s design philosophy. 

Toshiyuki Yoshino continues to work in Tokyo, creating furniture and interior objects based on a design philosophy that balances form, material and nature.​
