We Are Coming to You, 60th Salone del Mobile. Milano Exhibition
The 2022 Salone del Mobile. Milano exhibition promises to be unique. The event marks the recovery of the design sector and creates an opportunity to reflect on modern life.
«Events are often built around anniversaries to make them special and give them meaning. No special occasion is needed today. The pandemic and the international context require deep reflection on the meaning of this sixtieth edition,» says Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile. Milano. «We are experimenting with new ways of working, travelling and living. Everyday life needs to be redesigned, and the process challenges us to reinvent ourselves. The entire sector is already working to answer how the spaces where people live should adapt to change. The exhibition is finally an opportunity to share those answers.»
The 60th Salone del Mobile opens today across 20 pavilions at the Rho Fiera exhibition centre. The event features 2173 exhibitors, with 27% coming from abroad, including exhibitors from Europe, the United States and Canada, as well as Saudi Arabia, India, Southeast Asia and the Far East.
The 2022 exhibition promises to be unique because the event presents an opportunity to bring beauty to a society searching for stable points and new starting points. The exhibition creates a space for dialogue and comparison, encouraging collective discussion about the generative possibilities of design and the role of the entire furnishing system. Outstanding products and necessary, responsible design take centre stage at the Salone. The global event begins in Milan and reaches the world with a broad understanding of humanity that crosses borders.
The world spent almost two years confined at home, but the home did not stand still. The home became a setting for movement, reflection, awareness, revelations, emotions, new goals and changing motivations that transformed needs and made them more «human». People increasingly need comfortable, celebratory and functional spaces with a cross-disciplinary green approach that respects materials and the environment. Objects should create an atmosphere, evoke emotions and allow a space to resonate with the people who live there. Trends move from smaller forms to larger ones and from organic shapes to sculptural designs, without giving up comfort, efficiency or functionality. Colour palettes also vary, with natural and soft shades preferred. Materials respect the environment, including reclaimed wood, rare and refined wood species, recycled plastic and new compounds. Finishes are precious and precise, while fabrics are enveloping and highly tactile. Craft techniques and traditional knowledge are being rediscovered, alongside a desire to combine craftsmanship with industry. The furniture of 2022 invites visual appreciation, but above all, touch. Furniture also offers genuine, practical use rather than decorative purpose.
Our team of designers, stylists and managers is already in Milan. The team looks forward to the exhibition opening and its 60th anniversary, which the team will celebrate with an international family of designers.
Hello, Salone del Mobile, see you there!
