Reflex Milano: Reflection as an Architectural Tool in Contemporary Interiors

During Milan Design Week 2026, the group visited the Reflex Angelo factory showroom, one of the most consistent interpreters of glass in contemporary furniture design. The exhibition demonstrated how a material traditionally associated with decoration can become a fully developed tool for architectural form-making.

Space as a System of Reflections

The Reflex showroom in Milan presents space as a layered environment rather than a linear display, with reflection, transparency and depth working alongside volume. Visual axes remain fluid and continually shift, creating the effect of a living interior.
Glass no longer functions as a secondary material in the showroom: glass defines boundaries, organises lighting scenarios and changes the perception of proportion. Smoky and bronze tones are especially effective because the tones add visual density to objects without making the objects feel heavy.

Material as Technology and Design Philosophy

Reflex Angelo specialises in Murano glass and complex processing techniques, including multilayer lamination, engraving, and combinations with metal and natural stone. These methods give glass structural, tactile and visual roles within furniture and interior compositions.
The exhibition placed particular focus on:

tables with substantial glass bases, where the structure becomes a sculptural element;
consoles with integrated mirrored surfaces, creating the illusion that the objects dissolve;
display cabinets and storage systems, where glass performs both an aesthetic and a structural function.

Light as a Co-Creator

Lighting in the showroom is designed to reveal the physical properties of glass, including refraction, depth and layering. Light does not fall directly on the objects; light passes through the objects, producing complex reflections and soft gradients.
This approach strengthens the impression that the objects are immaterial and allows massive forms to appear to dissolve into the space. Designers can take a clear lesson from the approach: glass requires precise object design as well as a carefully planned lighting composition.

Reflex Angelo remains technologically advanced while retaining a direct connection to Murano's craft culture. Reflex maintains a balance between historical heritage and current aesthetics without relying on styling or excessive decoration.
