Paolo Ulian

Paolo Ulian is an Italian designer whose work combines precision, ethics and deep meaning. Paolo Ulian’s approach focuses on selecting essential details and removing everything unnecessary. Each object results from a subtle interaction between ideas, form and material, with its own inner energy and meaning. Paolo Ulian and his brother Giuseppe explore the boundaries of design by creating objects free from hierarchies and formal conventions.
Paolo Ulian studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and earned a degree in industrial design from ISIA in Florence. Paolo Ulian became Enzo Mari’s assistant in 1990 and received the Design Report award at Salone Satellite in 2000. Paolo Ulian’s solo exhibitions took place at Fabbrica del Vapore in 2009, the Milan Triennale in 2010 and Palazzo Mediceo di Seravezza in 2016. Paolo Ulian participated in a project dedicated to Vico Magistretti and curated Enzo Mari’s retrospective at the Triennale in 2020.
Paolo Ulian has collaborated with Droog Design, Driade, Fontana Arte, Danese, Azzurra Ceramiche, Antonio Lupi and other companies. Paolo Ulian’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Triennale, the London Design Museum and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Paolo Ulian also teaches at leading design schools.
