Marine furniture inspired Gio Ponti for many years. Between 1949 and 1951, Gio Ponti was commissioned to design an armchair for four ocean liners and two cruise ships: Conte Grande, Africa, Oceania, Conte Biancamano, Andrea Doria and Giulio Cesare. The resulting D.151.4 armchair appeared on every vessel with minor design variations suited to each ship’s interior. The armchair conveys the spirit of refined travel through timeless style and considered ergonomics.
