Molteni&C Italian Furniture

Molteni&C: the culture of quality living

Molteni&C is an Italian furniture brand that has combined industrial production, design thinking and handcraft traditions for more than 90 years. The company creates complete living environments rather than isolated products, including sofas, tables, kitchens, wardrobes, bedrooms and outdoor furniture.

Molteni&C began in 1934 in Giussano, within Lombardy’s furniture district. The brand continues the Made in Italy tradition through collaborations with leading designers and close attention to materials, proportions and details.

The Molteni&C brand philosophy

Molteni&C builds its philosophy around the idea of quality living. Quality living concerns the effect of furniture on everyday experience rather than decorative display. Comfort on a sofa, the movement of a wardrobe door, the way light falls across a tabletop and the interaction between furniture and space all shape that experience.

The philosophy developed gradually. Angelo Molteni founded a small workshop in 1934, and the company employed more than 60 craftspeople and workers by 1947. The company moved from predominantly classic furniture towards modern industrial design during the 1960s. Luca Meda played an important role in that development through a partnership that began in 1968.

Molteni&C does not place technology in opposition to craftsmanship. Modern production processes provide precision, while complex finishes, joinery and material treatment maintain a connection with Italian furniture-making traditions.

Designers who shaped Molteni&C

Molteni&C’s history is a history of collaboration with designers whose ideas influenced Italian and international product design.

Luca Meda became one of the key figures in Molteni&C’s move towards a modern design language. His work with the brand covered furniture, storage systems and the development of the company’s production culture. Meda helped establish an approach that combines clear form with considered engineering.

Gio Ponti holds a special place in Molteni&C’s history. The brand signed an exclusive agreement with the architect’s archive in 2010, allowing historic projects to receive a new interpretation within the Heritage Collection. The D.154.2 armchair was designed for Villa Planchart in Caracas and remains one of the collection’s notable pieces. The model received a Compasso d’Oro award for product career significance in 2024.

Vincent Van Duysen became creative director of Molteni&C in 2016. His influence covers furniture collections, the brand’s visual identity, store concepts and overall development. His designs combine restrained geometry, tactile qualities, architectural clarity and attention to human scale.

Other designers who have worked with Molteni&C include Afra and Tobia Scarpa, Aldo Rossi, Jean Nouvel, Patricia Urquiola, Hannes Wettstein, Werner Blaser and Christophe Delcourt. Their work represents different periods in the brand’s history while sharing an interest in functionality, materials and lasting form.

Iconic Molteni&C collections and models

Molteni&C develops several product areas at the same time, including living and dining furniture, storage systems, kitchens, bedrooms, outdoor collections and pieces from the historic archive.

Heritage Collection

The Heritage Collection brings pieces connected with Italian design history into contemporary interiors. The collection is not a literal reconstruction of the past. The collection shows how Gio Ponti’s ideas continue to work in present-day spaces.

The D.154.2 armchair is one of the collection’s most recognisable pieces. The flowing silhouette, distinctive seating position and connection with Ponti’s architectural heritage make the model an independent focal point for a living room, study or intimate relaxation area.

Sofas and upholstered furniture

Molteni&C’s contemporary collection centres on comfort and modularity. Notable models include Julian and Augusto by Vincent Van Duysen, together with Edmond and Emile by Christophe Delcourt.

Julian demonstrates Van Duysen’s characteristic approach through soft volumes, calm proportions and expressive yet controlled form. Edmond and Emile reveal another side of the brand through work with depth, texture and the impression of a solid, carefully structured form.

Storage systems and Logos

Molteni&C is known for more than upholstered furniture. Storage systems, bookcases, wardrobes and wall panels help create interiors as unified compositions.

Logos received new elements in 2026, including a floor-standing support and a separate book module with wooden bevelled fronts, methacrylate vertical elements and integrated LED lighting. The system can serve as storage and as a distinctive zoning element.

Kitchens and Dada

Molteni&C acquired the Dada brand in 1979. Dada was associated with the history of Italian kitchen design. The acquisition expanded the group’s ability to create complete residential environments.

Molteni&C’s kitchen division combines engineering precision, considered ergonomics and minimalist aesthetics. The kitchen functions as part of a connected environment alongside the living room, dining room and storage systems.

Molteni&C in interior design

Molteni&C furniture is particularly effective in projects that require spatial cohesion, precise details and restrained expression.

Sofas and armchairs establish the soft foundation of a living room. A dining table becomes the centre of everyday activities, while storage systems organise the space without visual noise. Kitchens, wardrobes and wall panels continue a consistent material language across different rooms.

Proportions have a major role in Molteni&C interiors. Counter height, sofa depth, panel thickness, front alignment and joint design work as parts of one system. The furniture suits projects where a designer seeks compositional clarity without adding many decorative elements.

Finishes alter the mood of the collections. Warm wood creates a more intimate interior, stone adds material presence, textiles soften precise forms, and metal and glass introduce a light graphic accent.

Molteni&C 2026 collection: softness and precision

The new Molteni&C 2026 collection focuses on soft lines, balanced proportions and the calm presence of furniture. Sculptural form does not require display. Expressive shapes remain comfortable and natural for everyday living.

New models include the Corsetto armchairs by Cristián Mohaded and the Sway sofa by Yabu Pushelberg, alongside new pieces for living rooms, dining rooms and storage systems. The collection also develops outdoor furniture and bathroom products.

The approach reflects a broader direction for the brand. Interiors become more tactile, while expression comes from the quality of form, material and execution rather than the number of details.

Molteni&C at Antonovych Home

Molteni&C furniture at Antonovych Home can form the basis of an interior where the living room, dining room, kitchen and storage systems read as one complete environment.

The brand supports projects at different scales, including a single Gio Ponti statement armchair and a complete solution for a private house or apartment. Each project depends on the relationship between the furniture, space, light, materials and the owners’ everyday habits.

Molteni&C is a design brand that does not seek immediate attention. The character of the furniture develops gradually through comfort, precise execution, natural proportions and relevance beyond a single interior season.
