Carpanese Home Bill Upholstered Chair

Simone Bonanni designed Bill for Carpanese. Bill is an upholstered chair based on reducing visible structural elements in favour of abstract, sculptural forms. The design balances a rotating conical base, a rounded seat and a vertically split backrest that gives Bill its distinctive character. Bill draws inspiration from sculptor and performance artist Bill Dan, whose temporary sculptures challenge apparently impossible balances by stacking stones and rough rocks. Bill explores new interactions between solid and empty elements, materiality and space, texture and contrasting surfaces. The rotating base is available in wood or lacquer and can feature fabric or leather upholstery.

Bill Upholstered Chair Technical Information

Bill features a birch plywood seat frame and a leg made from ash or lacquered or upholstered fibreboard panels. Open-cell polyurethane foam and Dacron wadding provide cushioning. Springs use elastic webbing. Upholstery is available in leather or fabric. Fixed cushioning castors sit at the front, while swivel castors are positioned at the rear.
