Carpanese Home Tachi XL Writing Desk

Giorgio Bonaguro designed Tachi XL for Carpanese Home. Tachi XL is a writing desk defined by organic forms and imposing proportions, born from the meeting of memory and a contemporary gesture. The project reinterprets selected archetypes of late-1970s Italian design. The name recalls a long, curved Japanese sword, a symbol of dynamism, precision and controlled strength. These qualities shape the design principles: continuous tension in the curved desktop, a sense of impulse and balance, and a relationship between mass and lightness. The reference also appears in the metal shelf beneath the desktop, a solid, luminous element that passes through the structure like a suspended blade. A practical drawer unit sits beneath the shelf. The Tachi collection includes two writing desks and a console. The collection combines classic and radically contemporary qualities. The designs interpret the desk and console as domestic and professional landscapes, creating places for concentration, movement and interaction with space and architecture.

Technical Information

Tachi XL is a writing desk made from ash-veneered fibreboard with metal plates. The desktop and legs use ash veneer. The under-desktop shelf is available in sheet metal or leather upholstery. The drawer unit uses ash-veneered fibreboard with birch board sides, back panel and drawer bottoms. Drawer bottoms feature Econabuk upholstery. Fully extending, adjustable runners complete the drawer system.
